    Week Ending 18th March 2016

It’s good to keep in touch with each of our Academies through regular newsletters, internet, Director meetings and by visiting. The weekly edition of OPTIME is a great improvement on communication and I look forward to receiving and reading it every week. In addition, this week, I have received a copy of the East Worlington Newsletter and I follow Burrington School on their Facebook page www.facebook.com/cat.bps I also visited Chulmleigh Community College during the week. What vibrant, interesting and exciting schools we have. I’m proud about the achievements and good behavior of pupils and students at our Academies and the excellent team of staff that do an incredible job.

I watched the Budget with interest and in particular the references to Education. It is now clear about the Government policy that all schools will become Academies and be members of Multi-Academy Trusts. I believe Chulmleigh Academy Trust is in a strong position to move forward and respond positively to the policy and other emerging Government proposals. Wednesday Afternoon

I visited Chulmleigh Community College to learn more about Accelerated Reader. The member of staff who I met with was Jo Nunn – Literacy Co-ordinator The visit helped me understand the principles, structure and management of Accelerated Reader and the impact it has on students reading age, comprehension and relevance to other subjects across the curriculum. During the visit it was possible to talk with some students and gain their perception of AR.

    Thursday

I was on the interview and appointment panel for a vacancy in the Foreign Languages Department. The process involved observing the candidates teaching and a formal question and answer interview. An excellent appointment was made and I look forward to her joining the school in September.

At 4.00pm there was a Board of Directors meetings. The highlight of the meeting was the attendance of the Head Boy and Head Girl from the College who explained their role and answered questions from Directors about their view and experiences of attending the College.

    Friday

I was involved with the Child Protection audit at Chulmleigh Community College. The audit is undertaken by the Local Authority and as part of the overall programme for the school I was interviewed with a focus on governance and accountability. From the audit a report written and an action plan will be produced to address any key issues that may have been highlighted.
