Duke of Edinburgh Award at Chulmleigh Community College

I was pleased to learn that 40 students at Chulmleigh Community College are DofE participants, some at Bronze level and some at Silver level. I think this is great news as I am a supporter of the principles of the DofE Award and an advocate of the opportunities DofE brings for the personal development of each student.

The training camp for the Ten Tors last weekend (19th and 20th March) was also a Practice Expedition for DofE students. Bronze DofE students who completed the camp are now eligible to take part in their Qualifying Expedition, which will take place in the Summer. I will follow the students' progress with interest.

The Silver DofE Qualifying Expedition will take place during the Easter break. The participants (who already have their Bronze Award) are all Ten Tors veterans and decided to do a 120 miles cycling expedition because they wanted to try a new challenge. This for me demonstrates the importance of DofE in providing opportunities for students to extend their personal goals and achievements. I think it has to be good for self-esteem, self-confidence and resilience. I wish them all the best on their expedition.

In addition to expeditions the participants have to complete a Skill section, a Physical section and a Volunteering section. Find out more http://www.dofe.org/what-is-dofe
