    Week Ending 25th March 2016

I could fill pages of my blog with some of the exciting things that happen at our Academies. Here’s just a few for this week’s blog. It was great to read about World Book Day at Lapford School and see a photo of the pupil’s dressed up as their favourite characters. In East Worlington I know the pupils and parents had great fun with their Worlington’s Got Talent event. Burrington certainly know how to celebrate a big birthday for Mr.Walters. At Chulmleigh Primary School I saw an absolutely brilliant play performed by years 3 and 4 for family members. I was involved with staff interviews at Chulmleigh Community College and as part of the interview process there was a panel of student. I was so impressed by their maturity and quality of their questions.

    Monday Morning

This was my termly meeting with Nick to monitor and scrutinise the data associated with pupils who have special educational needs and those that access pupil premium support. It was possible to discuss pupil progress and strategies used by the College to support the learning of these students.

    Wednesday

I was involved with the interviews for the Head of Upper School at Chulmleigh Community College. The main teaching subject for the post is Maths. The interview was extremely thorough and challenging for the applicants. It involved an observed teaching session, a Maths interview, an interview by students and an interview for the Head of Upper School role. It was good to appoint a good candidate who will start in September this year.

Later in the afternoon I visited Chulmleigh Primary School and saw a play performed by years 3 and 4 for their families. The quality of the performance of the pupils was incredible and all pupils and staff involved must be applauded for their skills and talents in producing such a high standards play.

I made a short visited the Sport Centre and I was very impressed to see a gallery of photographs of student who attend Chulmleigh Community College and who excel in different sports both at the College and beyond in clubs and teams in Devon. Well done to all students who perform to such high standards and are supported and encouraged by the school.

    Friday

Meeting of the Directors' Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) Group to monitor the building works project at the College. Tim Capps, the architect, was at the meeting and it was possible to confirm the future development strategy for phase 3 of the College build programme. This is an exciting development which will have provided new buildings and facilities at the College within 3 years. One of the advantages for the College of Academy Status.
