    Week Ending 22 April 2016

This week provides a good example of the Chair's role with just some of the varied aspects of the Trust's business.

On Monday morning I had my weekly meetings with Adrian (Company Secretary) and Mike (Executive Headteacher).

These are some of the issues I discussed with Adrian this week.

    • Update on Ten Tors
    • Progress with arrangements for Members meeting
    • Progress on CIF project meeting
    • PAG issues - Parent Advisers / PA visits to their schools / next PAG meeting
    • Website - update info

    My agenda with Mike included:

    • Attending Taw Valley Federation Governing Body
    • Academy Sponsor Update
    • Meeting arrangements for CAT Members
    • Progress with risk register
    • Staffing update around our schools
    • Buildings progress update

Monday Evening - Taw Valley Federation are in the process of deciding on joining a Multi-Academy Trust. They invited Team Academy Trust (Bluecoats Junior Academy, Umberleigh Academy and Brayford Academy) to provide a presentation about their Trust. Chulmleigh Academy Trust was also invited and Mike Johnson, Tracy Dodd and myself were our presenting team. We provided information about our vision, values, approaches and strengths. Taw Valley Federation are now taking a little time to consider their future.

On Tuesday it was a great pleasure to attend the KS4 Presentation Evening. This event celebrates the achievements of students at KS4. It was great to see so many parents, carers and other family members at the event supporting their child/ren. Awards are given for attainment and for effort and listening to the achievements of students demonstrates the quality of students we have a Chulmleigh Community College.

Wednesday I attended the Directors' CIF Group (Condition Improvement Fund) meeting at the College. This is to monitor building works across the Trust. This meeting focused specifically on the progress with Phase 3 at Chulmleigh Community College and the refurbishment of the School House at East Worlington Primary School. As part of the meeting I went on a tour of the building works at the College and was able to see first hand the progress towards the completion of this phase of development.

Thursday morning I met Terry Pullen (CAT Estates Manager) at East Worlington Primary School and he took me on a visit to see the excellent work that has been completed on the School House and the progress with the on-going works. It's great seeing the building in such a good condition compared to the state it was in prior the this work.

Friday and an early morning meeting with Paul Winter (Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee) and Mike Johnson to review the week and to assess the situation and impacts of the issues associated with Taw Valley Federation considering to their future arrangements. It is important that we are clear, as we have been consistently, that our ambitions are for a strong unified Chulmleigh Learning Community and we will work hard to maintain the focus on community schools across our geographical area. Our emphasis remains on collaboration to achieve high standards and outstanding schools, and we wish to avoid competition which can be extremely distracting and unproductive in the education of our children and young people.
