Spring 2018

This half term at East Worlington preschool we have been learning about fire, fire fighters and fire engines. We were very lucky to visit Witheridge fire station and sit in a fire engine and listen to the siren!

We have also been learning about the three little pigs, dressing up as the pigs and big bad wolf and building ourselves some strong houses using bricks.

Currently we are learning about Dinosaurs, It’s been great fun exploring our room which has a dinosaur museum full of fossils made by the children, our sand pit has some dinosaur teeth to be found and we have been learning all about the different dinosaur names!

We have also been enjoying music and literacy with dinosaur poems and dancing to the dino rap. We are looking forward to going on some Dinosaur egg hunts in the school grounds and lots of Easter crafts before Easter holiday.

Summer 2018

This term at East Worlington preschool we are learning all about the seaside and the underwater world.

The first half term we read ‘The lighthouse keeper’ series. The children have been busy cooking up lunches in Mrs Grinling’s kitchen and building their own lighthouses.

We have also had an ice cream playdough roleplay where the children explored many smells and colours, mint, vanilla, strawberry, chocolate and lemon flavours!

After half term we will be exploring sea creatures and reading ‘Commotion in the ocean’. The children will be able to serve food from the seaside café and build lots of sandcastles!

This topic has enabled the children to explore lots of messy play which they have thoroughly enjoyed.

Our seaside topic came to an end at half term, the children enjoyed making plenty of playdough ice cream’s at the ice cream parlour and exploring the many different underwater creatures.

This half term we are very excited to be exploring mini beasts starting off with ‘The hungry caterpillar’. We have our very own butterfly garden which allows the children to watch the tiny little caterpillars turn into beautiful butterflies, then we will set them free in the our garden.

We have also planted some sunflowers where the children are measuring them to see how tall they are.

We have also been so lucky to enjoy the beautiful weather and exploring the garden doing many different games with the parachutes.
