Year 8's trek the Tors

Y8 Geography trip to Dartmoor

On either the 2nd or 3rd of October, all of Year 8 were fortunate to venture out of the classroom and on to the wilds of Dartmoor.  They set off, on a long and arduous 4 mile walk from Meldon reservoir, stopping at many interesting sites along the way.  During the day, students learnt about how limestone has been quarried and used for local agriculture and could quite visibly see the impact the building of a dam has had on the landscape.

The walk up to Blackator was quite challenging with one student nearly losing their welly in a bog but, once there, were met with a fantastic panoramic view across Dartmoor and Devon.

After lunch students made their way through ancient woodland back to Meldon Reservoir.  Having just experienced the driest September on record, the reservoir was the lowest seen however, the Polar Maritime air mass should bring forth a spell of prolonged rain.
